Bicycle Travel Cases
For The Ultimate Protection

Your dream bicycle tour is in Europe and your bicycle is not. What about bicycle travel cases? The airline says just use one of their travel containers. Your buddy says to go down to your local bike shop and get a used bicycle box. Neither one is my recommendation. Fortunately, you have many options when it comes to secure bicycle cases.

Available Travel Cases

  • Thule 699 Round Trip Bike Case ($380). A very tough bike case for all types of traveling either on airplanes, trains, or just shipping by UPS or FedEx. Durable polyethylene construction with foam protection inside and integrated wheels for easy transport. A lock can be added to secure the case. Weighs about 30 pounds. 47" x 30½" x 10½" (outer), 45" x 28½" x 10" (inner).

  • Crate Works Pro 1 and Pro XLC ($120 to $180). Basically a stout double-walled cardboard box, with tie downs and plastic frame plate. The XLC is waterproof. They offer recumbent and tandem boxes. Good value and ease of use and can be used multiple times.

  • BikePro's Race Case ($450). A heavily-padded, soft-shell case with steel mounting frame and impact side panels. Good protection and easier to move around in cars and trains.

  • BikePro's Pedal Pack Travel Case ($450). Shippable by UPS/Fed Ex with bike in it (except tandem). "Egg crate" style convoluted foam interiors to nestle the bike securely. Molded rigid exterior designed to withstand the toughest of punishments.

  • Trico Ironcase ($320). This ultra-light case combines three layers of plush foam, heavy duty straps, and Triconium shells to make this an easy to pacd and secure case for travel. The Iron Case is UPS ready. With its wheels, small strap, and light weight, it is very easy to maneuver through an airport. Hand grips are molded into the case for maneuverability in more constricted areas. Excellent protection.

  • Serfas' SBA Armor Transport Case ($490). Meets UPS Size Requirements. Bulletproof polyethylene shell, heavy duty casters for mobility, and three outer straps for secure closure. 45" x 28" x 10" (outer), 43.5" x 26.5" x 9.25" (inner) 31 lbs.

  • Tri All Sport Clam Shell Velo Safe ($360). Made of high molecular weight polyethylene and 5 outer straps secure the case. Built-in casters for easy handling. Includes high-density foam padding. Excellent protection. 48.5" x 32.5" x 10" and weighs only 30 lbs.

  • Air Caddy ($100). A triangular corrugated box that folds up when not in use. Has internal metal supports. Optional wheels and protective cover are available. Excellent protection for traveling with a full size bicycle with minimum disassembly.

  • BTC Hard and Backpack Cases. The BTC is a precision machined lug that is installed in a bicycle frame and allows the bicycle to be packed for easy transportation. The broke-down bicycle will fit in a 26" x 26" x 10" hard-shell or backpack-style case. Excellent choice for the cyclist who travels with their bicycle.
